Dublin, Canada and home again jiggety jog.... As we rolled into the dublin I realized I had actually messed up and only booked our flat for two nights so we were going to improvise. We ended up staying at Clontarf Castle, a castle that has been transformed into a boutique hotel. I had stayed here a couple years ago when traveling with my estrogen fest so knew I had loved it. And once again, it was phenomal and a perfect place to share some proper scones and clotted cream with Shannon. If you have never had scones and clotted cream (with strawberry jam), you must!!!! My step daughter Addison and I found our massive love for it the last trip and I believe I might have gotten Shannon converted also. Yum!!!!
Of course while in Dublin we did most of the touristy things. We tried to see Molly Malone but they are moving her, the doors of Dublin, Guinness and such...but what we truly enjoyed the most was the Temple Bar area and the live music. I think that is a slice of heaven for both us and we absorbed and heard as much as we could. From the street performers to the pubs at night, grabbing a pint of Guinness and sitting back is just a perfect evening. (Maybe Shannon will jump in and share some "Guinness" stories...)
We bounced pub to pub to make sure we got to hear a good assortment and what is nice, most play the most popular Irish music and also sing along songs from America. So we had a blast. And we also learned that most places had an upstairs so they actually had the more "touristy" downstairs and upstairs were for the Irish. We loved the upstairs. But I have to admit...we discovered something in all of these outings that quite entertained us. I, as an almost 6 foot, plus size, busty, blonde American, stood out like a zebra at the horse races. At first it was quite awkward the stares, whispering and really feeling like everyone watched me. It was honestly like people were just baffled by me! But by our final evening it became entertaining and Shannon and I tried to capture some on camera. I just smiled and didn't worry about it and then it almost made me more approachable to them. I think we counted by the end of the last night I had had six blokes come up and charm me and ask me the most interesting questions and try and get us to go to their favorite pub for a pint. I kept waiting for just the perfect Irish man to come up and sweep me off my feet but my Gerard Butler didn't show so off to Kansas I am headed. 😜
Our trip home has taken a different route since the weather has swept across the map. We were scheduled to be home yesterday which would allow Shannon and I to sort thru our five massive bags (co-mingled at this point) that we had each one to a perfect weight to allow her to take her goods home and I the same. Well...we basically got stuck in Toronto Canada for the evening and found it to save all around by Shannon flying directly to Cincinnati. So all five suitcases were unpacked and re packed to make sure belonging went to proper homes. Not exactly what we had planned to do but worked out and saved Shannon a couple extra flights.
I'm currently on my last flight to Kansas as I type this and have to say, I had the most amazing trip. It was a complete whirlwind that allowed us to experience so many things and strange we can't believe some were just two weeks ago! I am blessed to have a best friend that I was able to enjoy and experience such a phenomenal trip with and be able to cherish the memories and the laughter with. Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, England, Wales, Ireland and we mustn't forget Canada and finally back to Topeka and Loveland, Ohio. Thank you for following our adventure and enjoying our warped sense of humor. We have enjoyed sharing it with you!
Home again home again jiggety jog....
Cheers, Jenny and Shannon.
PS. If heading to any of these places...or others you know I have traveled, don't hesitate to email me! I am a huge researcher and if could help with suggestions would love to!
