The makeover has started and it is amazing how different the shop is looking! When we first opened Pinkadilly, we had less than a 48 hour turn around. So there were many things I would have loved to have tackled but it wasn't physically possible. It is a 100 year old building with lots of interesting quirks!! Leaking roof, limited electricity, walls with all kinds of crazy textures and many more challenges that make things a bit more interesting.
It has been such a blessing because the troops have really rallied and helped to tackle it all. Everyone is excited to watch the transformation and changes of Pinkadilly.
Kendra and David from Bunker Coffee are champion painters. I giggled because David said we should paint the middle back room, which was more than my brain could tackle, and 8 hours later David finished the gray and pink and it is gorgeous!! Amazing how much cleaner and freshened up this old building is starting to look.
Kim from the Green Gals is truly the paint lover. She cracks me up that she will volunteer to paint every time. How nice is that? So in she has come the past couple days and is helping to paint whatever we direct her. Today was working on the bathroom and our gorgeous north wall.
Back home after a day full of wiping down all walls, cleaning up years worth of cobwebs and grime. Pinkadilly is starting to shine...I will try and take more pictures tomorrow to show more progress. Hopefully you are making plans to join us this weekend for the First Friday artwork so you can see in person. We will be open Friday 10-9pm and Saturday 10-4.
Off to rest my tootsies...
This is the time of year, much like that of fall, that I love the transformations of the season. There is something about this in-between weather that makes all of us want to get out and do stuff! I know for me, I start nosing around my house, inside and out and see what I want to work on, what changes and additions I want to make. It’s the time I start those projects and get ready for the upcoming season.
At Pinkadilly, it isn’t any different….I’m sure many of you have heard the news that Karen Gideon, from @Junque in My Trunk has decided to follow her true passion and open a paint studio/workspace. Karen has been dreaming, since I have known her, of creating a space that would allow people to come together and create. A place where she could share her incredible talent and accommodate her needs in a better fashion. So at the end of this week I am going to be sad to see Karen, Gale, Amber and Brooke take off on their next adventure. I am so very excited for them and can’t wait to watch their next journey. I know they will be nothing short of incredible.
I have been fortunate to watch the incredible talent that Karen Gideon possesses, and to watch her take pieces that truly no one has wanted and turn them into masterpieces, that truly are one of a kind and so worth owning. (I know…I have a few! ) Her 110% commitment to her business and her clientele exemplifies how much she loves what she does. Karen was there to jump in with me on a crazy road that had lots of ups and downs. But one thing I have always appreciated was the commitment that Karen had to her business and helping me build Pinkadilly and also the NOTO Arts District.
Karen, Gale Amber and Brooke are able to grow their passions and expand their businesses, which is also allowing me to expand mine! When I started Pinkadilly, it truly was a whirlwind with a 48 hour turn around of our building. From the start, we have been so abundantly blessed that we haven’t had time to slow! In these two years I have learned what I love, tried to add to what NOTO lacked, and Topeka as a whole, and what my strengths were within this business. And as many times in any business adventure, your vision changes and your style changes!
So over the next few weeks I’m excited to be making some fun additions, changes, repairs and flips to Pinkadilly. If you have been in the store recently, you have probably had to step over a box or two, or have stumbled upon another mess I have made and are getting sneak peaks to some new products and additions. It’s kinda like Christmas around here opening all the new goodies.
I’m excited…our growth has been phenomenal over the past (almost) two years, and am always blown away by your support. It has been a fun adventure! So, this is the time for me to do some fun makeovers! Change a little of this…add a little of that…and see where this jump in my journey goes. I never know what my destination is, but I do love the journey…
More to come with sneak peaks of updates!
